Zoe-Adopted 5.2.10

Zoe was LDDR’s little TV star featured on Fox2 news to promote a fundraiser in June 2010. Playing around with the TV reporter during the video clip, no one would ever suspect that Zoe’s hip had been crushed and she suffered through parvovirus. Zoe’s former owner accidentially ran over her with the car and unable to pay for her medical treatment, planned to have her eunthanized. When LDDR received a call from the shelter about this little pup there was no hesitation to bring her into care. Zoe required extensive surgery of the hip with pins and a bracket put in to hold the hip together while it healed itself. Then, as if that weren’t enough, her weakened condition made her suspectable to parvovirus, which she contracted. Now, months later, Zoe is with her new family running and playing like a puppy should play. Zoe overcame all the odds with the care and support of LDDR, our vets, and the many wonderful folks who donated financial assistance toward her care. A real ‘happy tail’ for Zoe and her adoptive family.

Charo - ADOPTED 09.07.09

Charo was just another old dog surrendered by her former owner who got tired of her. At 13 years old, she still had the spunk and alertness of dogs several years younger than her. Charo came with her own pedigree papers showing her family lineage, but a pedigree meant nothing to the couple who saw her on Petfinder.com. One of the family members has bad allergies and they had been searching for a dog that wouldn’t aggravate her allergies more. They had heard that miniature schnauzers, being low-shed dogs, are good for people with allergies. They were delighted to meet Charo and decided that she was just the right dog for their family even though they were told her life expectancy is limited due to her advanced age. Today, Charo, now known as Savannah, is the joy of her adoptive family. They took her on vacation to meet family in Alabama and they reported everyone ‘adored her.’ She is still a spunky little girl and her adoptive family says they thoroughly enjoy her and there have been no problems regarding the allergies.

Shane - ADOPTED 08.15.09

Shane ended up in the Inkster shelter as a stray. Although a senior, Shane was a bit of a wild child in the foster home, which might explain how he ended up as a stray in the first place. This poor little guy’s teeth were so bad that some of them fell right out when he was given a treat. But his fiesty nature and tooth loss was no matter to the family that spotted him on LDDR’s website. They were searching for a companion for their grandmother who was very lonely after the death of her former mini schnauzer. Shane made quite a hit with the grandmother and the whole family was very excited to adopt him as a permanent member of the household.

Daisy1 - ADOPTED

Daisy supposedly was a stray turned into a mid MI shelter. It was later learned that Daisy was actually turned in by the owner’s husband while the owner was away on vacation. Heartbroken when she learned the truth, the owner nonetheless surrendered Daisy to shelter staff. A foster mom with LDDR saw Daisy featured on the Shelter’s available list and requested permission from LDDR to foster Daisy. Permission granted…adoption successful! Today, Daisy, now known as Daisy Grace, is the joy of her adoptive mom. The family saw Daisy on LDDR’s website and drove all the way from the TC area to meet her. The family has wanted a miniature schnauzer for a long time and tried to adopt several times before from various rescues, but another family always got the dog there were interested in. They weren’t going to let that happen this time. Daisy Grace shares her new home with a canine companion. Daisy Grace’s adoptive mom says she is so sweet and cute, and her wholes family is enjoying her.

King - ADOPTED 12.31.09

King was featured on LDDR’s home page during July 2009. LDDR was contacted to help this poor boy who had been surrendered to a mid MI shelter with a request that he be euthanized. When King arrived at his foster home flies swarmed his head, he had a terrible stench and matts covered his body, some encrusted with feces. A victim of neglect, King required T.E.C.A. surgery to alleviate the massive infections in his ears. The infections left King deaf. A fairy tale ending for King who was adopted at Christmas 2009. Today King, now known as Toby, lives life large with his mom and two canine ‘siblings’. According to his adoptive mom he is doing great and seems very happy. Yeah King!!!
