Description:
Meet Nemo! Nemo is a teddy bear with a heart of gold. He has lived his whole life chained in a yard, so everything is new to him, but he’s eager to learn and willing to explore so long as he knows you’re with him. He was thrilled to learn about the existence of sofas, and loves cuddling and taking naps on ours. Nemo is a very low-key dog.He likes long, slow walks, especially in the woods. Everything is brand new to him - from sewer grates to traffic to train sounds - so he’ll look to you for a lot of reassurance and guidance. Nemo has not been officially leash trained, but he’s basically already trained. He responds extremely well to verbal cues and gentle leash tugs, and is not a puller. Nemo loves other dogs. The highlights of his walks are meeting new people (cautiously) and other dogs( with much more enthusiasm). I think he’d love a dog friend to play with. Nemo doesn’t have much experience playing with people, but is eager to figure that out too. He has learned the game “I-stole-your-thing-go-get-it!” and of course he likes boxing, but he’s very cautious about accepting new toys. He wants to make sure they’re his before he plays with them. This has made him extremely easy to house-break, because he won’t chew anything unless if you tell him over and over again that it’s ok to chew. He is also not officially house broken, but he has had zero accidents in the house and has figured out what hedges and trees are for. So far he’s held it for four hours, so we’re well on our way to getting him fully house-broken. With that being said, Nemo is a very social dog, and would not do well in a house where he is left alone for long periods of time. He needs companionship. Being in a house is still very scary to him, and he wants someone he can look to for moral support when the refrigerator turns on. Ideally a house with a dog and a yard and an attentive owner would suit his needs the best. He is doing well in an apartment without a dog with a lot of attention and walks, though, so the situation might depend on what you can realistically give him. He is slowly being introduced to the “crate” concept, but still doesn’t like it. Kongs have done little to sway his opinion. Because he doesn’t like Kongs. They are still not an accepted toy. But he will most definitely love you, and I think you will love him too.
Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all dogs before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the dog's shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. The microchips are registered to Last Day Dog Rescue with the adopter's info added once adopted. If the dog is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Dogs MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our dogs back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted dog. The petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label. Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all animals before adoption.
