Description:
Hi! My name is Tahni (TAH-nee). I am a 3-4 year old female yellow lab, looking for a new family. I have the typical happy lab personality. I am currently living in a foster home with two furry foster brothers. I'm potty trained and can be in a crate, but really prefer not to be. I only go in to the crate when my foster mom (we'll call her "Mom") goes to work, but I cry when she leaves. It's not that she doesn't trust me. She thinks I would be fine out of the crate. It's my foster brothers she's unsure of. She says, "Boys will be boys," whatever that means. My foster brothers aren't really in to playing (They weren't taught how to play when they were little.), so we co-exist. Plus we're still getting used to each other. If I lived with another dog that liked to play, I might be interested.  (:

I don't know what happened to my first family, but losing them has made me a bit insecure and afraid that my new humans may disappear. That's why I cry when Mom leaves me in the crate. I'm hoping my new family will be understanding and work with me until I am feeling comfortable enough to relax and realize that they will never leave me. Right now I follow Mom everywhere. I won't eat if she leaves the room, I won't go out to go potty if she doesn't come with me. It's just going to take a little time for me to trust that my new family is always going to be there, or come back to me when they leave the house. I don't like feeling this way and it's going to take me longer to settle in to my new home than you would normally expect. So please be patient with me. Having a fur brother or sister might help.

I like little kids, but sometimes don't pay attention to what I'm doing and might knock them over. Which leads me to what Mom says is VERY IMPORTANT for my new family to know....I'm going to need a strong leader in my new family. Mom says my first family let me get away with a lot. She says I was probably the one in charge. I'm very demanding and need a lot of work on my manners. I've never gone for a walk on a leash and will definitely need help with that because I need to exercise. I'm working on sit, which gets me some great treats. But I like to use my mouth, not to bite, but to show you where I want your hands and arms to touch me. I also like to put my feet on you. And if I'm not getting the attention I feel I deserve, I'm very vocal. That's how I got my first family to give me whatever I wanted. Mom says my new family will not let me get away with that. Being in charge has been very exhausting for me and Mom says that wasn't fair to me. I will appreciate a strong leader taking over that responsibility so I can just be a dog and play and look to you for guidance and making all the important decisions.

I think once I believe you're able to take over all the responsibilities I've been carrying, we're going to get along just fine. It's going to take some time and work. Both with my insecurities and manners. But I promise if you stick with it, I'll be devoted to you for life. Can you devote yourself to me?

Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all dogs before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the dog's shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. The microchips are registered to Last Day Dog Rescue with the adopter's info added once adopted. If the dog is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Dogs MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our dogs back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted dog.

The petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.
