Hi, my name is Gemma. My foster mom named me that because she says I'm a "gem" in the rough. You see, I am a puppy mill survivor. She says I wasn’t socialized properly and was kept only to make babies. I don't know what that means, but I do know life is so much better now. I have a soft bed in a warm house with lots of doggie friends, toys, and yummy food. I have come a long way since being with my foster mom, but there is so much more I have to learn to be a good canine citizen. All this learning is going to take me time to feel comfortable, so you have to be patient with me. My foster mom wants the best for me and knows my forever family will need the patience of Job to help me overcome my fears. I do love to eat though and am very food motivated and take treats from you very gently. I’m curious about people and will sniff you. I love to play with toys and other doggies. I’m trying to get this housebreaking thing down, and I’m doing pretty good, but still make mistakes. My foster mom taught me that my crate is my safe place, so I go there like a good girl when she asks me. I really want a home with another dog or two that will play with me. Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all dogs before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the dog's shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. The microchips are registered to Last Day Dog Rescue with the adopter's info added once adopted. If the dog is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Dogs MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our dogs back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted dog.
The petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.
