Description:
Chase is a very sweet pit bull mix who was pulled from the River Rouge Animal Shelter. He had previously been in the Taylor Animal Shelter and his adoptive family said that they were unable to have a dog where they lived so they took him to the River Rouge shelter. Chase is in a foster home with 8 other dogs of all shapes and sizes and gets along with all 7 of the female dogs. He seems very interested in the only male dog in the house, a Pomeranian. We keep them separated for the most part in order to avoid any potential issues. He has never growled at him, but the Pomeranian is interested in him as well and snaps at Chase, so we don’t want Chase to retaliate.
Chase is heartworm positive and will begin treatment soon. He is neutered and house trained. He stays in a crate when we are not home and does not seem to mind it at all. He is likes to chew on bones and be with his foster mom and dad. He sleeps with us in our bed with 3 of our other dogs. He is a very good boy, very sweet. He is not destructive in any way. I think he would do well in any type of home and would be fine with kids over 8 and female dogs. We are unsure about cats. He is a big boy so younger kids might get knocked down if he jumped on them. He knows some commands; sit and down. He is food motivated and will sit for treats. We feed him in his crate because he would likely eat all other dogs’ food. He eats very fast, indicative of him not getting enough food for a period of time. He is thin for his build and we are working on putting weight on him.
Chase is heartworm positive. He will be receiving treatment soon. All costs associated with the treatment will continue even after adoption. The foster parent will be able to provide more detailed information. Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all dogs before adoption. AVID Microchips are implanted between the dog's shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. The microchips are registered to Last Day Dog Rescue with the adopter's info added once adopted. If the dog is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Dogs MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our dogs back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted dog. The petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label. Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all animals before adoption.
