Special Needs: Vision Impairment Due to Cataracts, Hx of bladder stones

Princess and Sassy have been companions since they were puppies, being loved and cared for by the same owner until terminal illness forced them to part. Sassy is a 15 y/o Cockapoo with a gentle spirit and pleading eyes that melt your heart. Princess is a 14 y/o Chihuahua mix with a spunky spirit and just a touch of Chi attitude. Both dogs are love-bugs with people. Both love a good romp outside and car rides. They reside in a foster home with six other dogs. Princess is very insecure with dogs other than Sassy and snaps at the other dogs if they are too close to her. However, when it comes to getting treats, Princess will sit in the middle of all the dogs and wait her turn for goodies. Sassy seems to like all dogs and has no issues with any of them. Both Princess and Sassy are housebroken. However, Sassy has had a couple accidents in the home. They sleep through the night in their crates without incident. Both have been very quiet, with the exception of the occasional bark from Sassy.

Sassy has cataracts in both eyes which diminishes her vision; however, she is able to get around very well inside and outdoors. She recently had a bout with a bladder stone in her urethra, but successfully passed it after a couple days. She also has thin fur, some lumps and bumps due to old age, and a history of mild ear infections. Sassy is spayed, UTD on shots, and received regular dental check-ups. No other significant medical issues are known

Princess has a Grade 5 heart murmur. At a recent vet appt. Princess was also found to have an enlarged heart, bladder stones, and a mass in her chest. She is currently on a medication regimen. Medical records indicate she also has luxated patellas and a history of allergy to flea bites. Luxated patellas is a very common condition in small dogs and many dogs live their entire lives without problem. Princess is spayed, UTD on shots, and received regular dental check-ups

We know both of these sweet seniors have limited lifespans, but we are hopeful that a family will share their love and home with them for whatever time they have left. Because they have spent their entire lives together, we want to keep them together. Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all dogs before adoption. AVID Microchips are implanted between the dog's shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. The microchips are registered to Last Day Dog Rescue with the adopter's info added once adopted. If the dog is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Dogs MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our dogs back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted dog.

 

The petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.
