Description:
Benny came from a rural shelter in Ohio where he had been for several weeks, being passed over by prospective adopters for younger, pretty dogs. An urgent plea was sent out on Benny’s behalf and Last Day Dog Rescue came forward to rescue Benny. Benny is a mix of Pug and an unknown terrier breed. He has the cutest under-bite. He is painfully thin and
due to past chronic, untreated skin issues, has areas on his body where the skin has turned black and has little to no fur. Benny has lost a lot of teeth as well, including one canine tooth.
Despite what he has been through, Benny has a sweet disposition. He is not a big-time cuddler, but does like to be held and petted. He resides with several other dogs and seems to enjoy their company. Benny does not like other dogs around his treats/food, but seeing how he is so thin, he wants every morsel for himself. He does not display this behavior with people. The foster mom is working with Benny on his food aggression by giving him treats/food in a supervised group setting with lots of praise when he ignores the other dogs. Benny does appear to have diminished eyesight, but gets around very well. The vet believes he also has a history of chronic eye problems. Benny sleeps through the night in his crate and will go to his crate on his own to nap. Benny is housebroken and goes to the back door when he needs/wants to go outside. Being older, Benny is well beyond the chewing stage and never boths anything in the house. Occasionally he will get on the couch, but really prefers to sit outside in the sun. Benny is UTD on his shots, was neutered, and had a dental cleaning with several extractions.
The petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label. Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all animals before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the animals shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. The microchips are registered to Last Day Dog Rescue with the adopter's info added once adopted. If the animal is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Animals MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our animals back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted animal. Please understand the statements about this animal are based upon the foster home's evaluation of the animal. The animal might behave differently (negatively or positively) in your home. While the animal might be good with the current foster’s dogs, cats, children, etc., it may not be with your animal(s) or children. The animal may be housebroken or litter trained in the home of the foster but may relapse in your home. The animal is represented to the public as it performs in the foster home and any statements made regarding the animal are conditional to that foster home setting. Please understand that statements made regarding this animal are simply overviews and are not guaranteed.
