Description:
Lara has a heart of gold in a compact, 50 pound, lab mix body. She has the personality, mental characteristics, and many physical characteristics of a Border Collie. She is active about 16 hours a day and needs a lot of human interaction and direction, lots of exercise, and a job to do. She is very smart, learns fast, listens well, is super sweet, but she is not a dog you can stick in a crate all day. She is gentle, loving, affectionate, well behaved, and she loves to play. She has energy, drive, and a strong eagerness to please.  She loves to play ball, fetch, and tug and will do so for hours at a time if she can get someone to play with her. Throw a ball for her and its not likely that it will hit the ground, because she runs and catches it in her mouth first. She loves to play fetch with her stuffed toys and she will bring them back over and over and she never seems to get tired of the game. Give her a squeak toy and she will squeak it over and over with delight in the sound it makes.  I gave her a doll that says "I love you" when squeezed and she has found that she can make it talk not only by squeezing it with her mouth but also by rolling on it. She loves a game of tug with a braided rope too. Lara is one of the few dogs we've had that plays with her toys without tearing them up.

Lara sits immediately when told without even being offered a treat and she lifts her paw quickly when asked to shake hands. She will catch treats in her mouth if you throw them to her. She comes when called and is completely housebroken and crate trained. She hasn't gotten into anything at our house that doesn't belong to her and she ignores our cats.

Lara loves children and is very gentle with them and doesn't jump all over them. Lara is very intelligent and a fast learner. Lara would make an excellent dog for agility, flyball, frisbee, or just plain obedience competition. She just needs some training to be a wonderful dog for dog sports. She will also make a great companion dog or child's pet.  She has never barked at our house so I don't know if I would count on her as a watch dog.

Lara is friendly to people but a little bit timid with new people. Once she checks the person out, she is friendly. However, on a leash she will growl at other dogs that get near her. Once she sniffs the dog and finds that it's friendly and not planning to hurt her, then she is friendly with the dog. She has to be introduced to other dogs one at a time. She listens well and stops when told-or when the other dog warns her to back off. Lara would be a dog that could be taken to the dog park but she needs some obedience training and more socialization first.

Since Lara is only 2-3 years old, she has a long life ahead of her to be your best friend.

Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all dogs before adoption.  AVID Microchips are implanted between the dog's shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification.  The microchips are registered to Last Day Dog Rescue with the adopter's info added once adopted.  If the dog is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip.  Dogs MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times.  Per our contract, we take all our dogs back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted dog.

The  petfinder.com  system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do o ur best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.Lara 015"811"279
