Description:
Update 8/9/2012 - Hansen recently had a bad eye removed but is healing very well. He is finishing up the antibiotics and will have the stitches removed soon. His remaining eye has little to no vision, but that does not stop him from doing all kinds of doggie things like stalking squirrels and investigating all corners of the yard. If considering a small dog, please don't let his vision impairment deter you. Hansen has adapted well to his environment and loves to cuddle and be with his person. He enjoys going for car rides and walks, but does need some leash work. Update 7/8/2012 - Hansen is doing wonderful and has adjusted well to his foster family. Hansen is very affectionate and loves to give 'kisses' and cuddle. He eagerly rolls over for belly rubs and will crawl into your lap if he can get to it. He has even tried playing with some of the other dogs; however, foster mom is very careful about him playing due to the potential of injury to his eyes. Although he has almost no sight, Hansen finds things by smell. He has learned the layout of the house and large yard very well. Hansen is eating very well and has gained weight. He is healthy except for the Dry Eye which requires daily eye drops. The only thing Hansen doesn't have right now is a family of his own. Could that be yours? June 2012 - Hansen was picked up by police during a routine night shift and turned over to a local animal shelter. Hansen was so matted that shelter staff could not tell if he was a male or female. He was emaciated and weak, and had obvious eye problems. Realizing Hansen needed immediate medical care, an urgent plea was sent out and without hesitation, LDDR took little Hansen in. Only after being shaved down, it was discovered Hansen is a male Lhasa Apso. Despite everything this little guy has been through Hansen has a sweet nature. We believe Hansen was someone’s beloved pet because he is neutered, housebroken, and quite affectionate. At a recent ophthalmology appt., we learned Hansen has a condition called Dry Eye. He also has a deep ulcer in one eye, which may require removal if it does not heal. Hansen is being treated for his eye condition, but will require eye drops for the remainder of his life. If interested in meeting Hansen please contact his foster mother JJ Gallagher at j-jarrett@att.net .
The petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.

Microchips are implanted between the animals shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. The microchips are registered to Last Day Dog Rescue with the adopter's info added once adopted. If the animal is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Animals MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our animals back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted animal. Please understand the statements about this animal are based upon the foster home's evaluation of the animal. The animal might behave differently (negatively or positively) in your home. While the animal might be good with the current foster’s dogs, cats, children, etc., it may not be with your animal(s) or children. The animal may be housebroken or litter trained in the home of the foster but may relapse in your home. The animal is represented to the public as it performs in the foster home and any statements made regarding the animal are conditional to that foster home setting. Please understand that statements made regarding this animal are simply overviews and are not guaranteed.
