Description:
Pecan (aka Maggie) is a 14 lb Beagle with a happy-go-lucky personality. She came to us after being found running loose and had a very bad case of mange and ear infections. She had very little hair on her feet and legs, but now she is georgeous. It took her no time at all to warm up to our family and lab. She is interested in our cats, yet they try to ignore her. On occasion she trys to play with and chase them, but not often. She only barks when playing with our lab and sometimes when she sees me and gets excited. She only seems to put her nose to the ground when an animal has been in our yard, she is not obsessed with sniffing like some beagles I have seen. She is good with kids young and old. My 2 year old granddaughter lives with us and my college children have friends in and out of the house and she is good with all the chaos. She has learned not to take food out of the 2 year olds hand! She comes when she is called (even outside with all the distractions) and knows the command 'sit'. She loves our 55 lb lab and you will usually find her next to him, and always touching him. She backs up to him and sits on his front legs. At times she climbs on top of him and lays on his back to sleep. She loves to lay next to me when I am sitting and sleeps with us in bed at night.
I am still working on house training her. She has good days and not so good days. But there has been improvement. She does not do well in the car, getting sick after about 5 miles of driving. It then takes her a couple of hours to recooperate, sleeping, and basicly not feeling well at all.
Update on Pecan: She is cute as can be! She is extremely tiny for a beagle (maybe a miniature beagle?) She loves to snuggle up in your lap, and have her ears petted. She would make a great companion dog or family dog for a home with love to give! Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all animals before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the animals shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. The microchips are registered to Last Day Dog Rescue with the adopter's info added once adopted. If the animal is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Animals MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our animals back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted animal. Please understand the statements about this animal are based upon the foster home's evaluation of the animal. The animal might behave differently (negatively or positively) in your home. While the animal might be good with the current foster’s dogs, cats, children, etc., it may not be with your animal(s) or children. The animal may be housebroken or litter trained in the home of the foster but may relapse in your home. The animal is represented to the public as it performs in the foster home and any statements made regarding the animal are conditional to that foster home setting. Please understand that statements made regarding this animal are simply overviews and are not guaranteed. The Petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our animals. Visual breed identification in animals is unreliable so for most of the animals we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each animal as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our animals based on personality, not by breed label. Thank you for looking through our list of animals needing forever homes and choosing rescue first. We appreciate you stopping by.Other Pictures of Pecan - ADOPTED 08.29.11 (click to see larger version):
