DIVA TILLY STARS IN HER LATEST VIDEO  /  Update 7-11-2010:     Tilly is looking for family that wants a spunky, fearless, somewhat boisterous schnauzer.   True to her breed trait, Tilly has a lot to say about everything!   When Tilly first arrived at the foster home, she was quiet and reserved.   However, we have since learned that once Tilly becomes comfortable and secure in her surroundings, her real personality comes out.

Tilly is generally well behaved and obedient.   She gets along with the smaller dogs in the home, but is afraid of the bigger dog and will growl at him.   She displays some food aggression tendencies and will snatch treats from other dogs if there is an opportunity.     Tilly loves to play and as the video shows, she will retrieve a tennis ball.   Tilly is quite vocal when playing, making a lot of growling noises, and can be somewhat mouthy and rough in her play. She will bolt out the door, but the foster mom is working with Tilly to stop this habit and she is making good progress in this area.   Tilly also still needs work walking on a leash as she pulls and tries to run instead of walk.   She is also learning to relax when on her foster mom’s lap or when being picked up.   She is not as stiff and nervous as she was initially when she first arrived at the foster home.   It is possible that Tilly may not have had a lot of ‘lap time’ in her former environment.   She is still uncomfortable with grooming, especially nail trims, and will nip if scared.   Tilly can be stubborn, but does respond well to patient, consistent redirection/correction.   Because of Tilly’s tendency to play rough and her nervousness with handling, she is not a good candidate for a family with young children.   Foster mom feels Tilly would do best in an active adult home, committed to working with her to overcome her issues.

For additional information or if interested in meeting Tilly, please contact her foster mom at j-jarrett@att.net .

6-6-2010:  Tilly had her teeth cleaned and is up-to-date on her shots.  Tilly aka Tilly-Willy has come a long way from her initial nervousness when riding in a vehicle.  She now climbs into the vehicle and then hops up onto the passenger seat.  Tilly is a little sweet-heart and forms a strong bond with her human and can sometimes become a little possessive.  In the foster home there are both big and small dogs.  Tilly appears to be afraid of big dogs and will growl if one gets to close to her.  She is okay with smaller dogs and very calm dogs.  Tilly enjoys being outdoors on nice days, but doesn't care to go out when it's raining.  When outside with her 'human' she enjoys sniffing around the yard or sitting by her foster mom, overseeing operations as the foster mom works in the garden.  Tilly also loves to roll around on the ground and chase a tennis ball, but doesn't know what to do with it once she 'catches' it.  Tilly and the resident male mini schnauzer enjoy the 'thrill of the hunt' searching out those pesky chipmunks residing on the property.  They make a pretty formidable team, but haven't caught anything.  Tilly loves, loves, loves to go for walks, but requires a harness as she will wiggle her way out of a collar.  She has never learned to walk on leash and it definitely shows, so will require some training in this area.  Tilly knows some commands and learns new ones quickly.  Tilly has very good house manners and is well behaved.  She knows her name and comes when called.  Tilly will go to her crate to snooze, but is equally happy lounging on the couch or snuggling on her foster mom's lap.

Update 5-17-2010:  Tilly recently had a vet check.  She has a heart murmur and her teeth need cleaning, but otherwise her overall health seems pretty good.  Tilly only weighs 14 pounds although she looks larger.  Tilly is believed to be between 7 and 10 years old, but she is one spunky little girl.  It took her a few days to settle in and feel safe enough to be herself, but once she is comfortable with you, she shows you her silly side.  Tilly is very quiet until you bring out a tennis ball, and she is quite competitive chasing down that tennis ball.  If another dog beats her to it, she gives them a piece of her mind and walks away.  She sometimes gets so excited when her foster mom comes home, she dances on her hind legs and makes happy yaps.  Tilly is well behaved inside.  Tilly is not needy, but does like to be close to her foster mom either sitting on her lap or near her on the floor.  She barks a little when someone comes to the home, but greets people calmly.  It takes Tilly only a few minutes to warm up to unfamiliar people.  Tilly is very nervous riding in vehicles.  If the ride is too long for her she begins to whine because she has to go potty.  At a recent adoption event, Tilly shook the entire time she was there, but still was friendly to everyone that approached her and petted her.  Tilly is also very nervous for grooming and requires lots of patience for this task.  Despite any nervousness she experiences, Tilly does not growl or nip; she just shakes.  Tilly is crate trained and hasn't had any accidents in the home.  She resides in a multi-dog home, but foster mom feels Tilly would love to be an only child or in a home with another older, calm canine companion.  Because Tilly is older, a home without young children would best suit her.  Tilly's ideal family would also be home more than not.

5-12-2010:  Tilly is brand new to the rescue.  Tilly is not yet ready for adoption, as she needs to get a health check from our veterinarian.  Tilly was found in the middle of a busy road in the metro Detroit area by a volunteer's son.  She was wearing a harness.  Her coat was badly matted and her toenails were very long.  As the photos show, Tilly also needs to be groomed.

Just look at those ears!  We aren't sure of Tilly's breed, but she could be a mix between a mini schnauzer and silky terrier or yorkie.  Whatever her breed mix, she has a sweet personality and seems to know some commands.  In the foster home, Tilly has been very quiet and prefers to be near the foster mom.  Tilly resides in a foster home with several other dogs and has done well with them, but doesn't interact with them much.  We do not know how Tilly is with children or cats.

We will have more information on Tilly as we get to know her better.

Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all animals before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the animals shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. The microchips are registered to Last Day Dog Rescue with the adopter's info added once adopted. If the animal is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Animals MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our animals back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted animal.

Please understand the statements about this animal are based upon the foster home's evaluation of the animal. The animal might behave differently (negatively or positively) in your home. While the animal might be good with the current foster’s dogs, cats, children, etc., it may not be with your animal(s) or children. The animal may be housebroken or litter trained in the home of the foster but may relapse in your home. The animal is represented to the public as it performs in the foster home and any statements made regarding the animal are conditional to that foster home setting. Please understand that statements made regarding this animal are simply overviews and are not guaranteed.

The Petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our animals. Visual breed identification in animals is unreliable so for most of the animals we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each animal as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our animals based on personality, not by breed label.

Thank you for looking through our list of animals needing forever homes and choosing rescue first. We appreciate you stopping by.
