Description:
6/21/10: We've discovered that Rita is quite the swimmer! She loves going in the water, playing by the lake, and running through puddles after the rain!

6/15/10: Rita is just the greatest dog! She would make an excellent pet for a first time dog owner because she is very laidback and obedient. She's already housebroken and crate trained (although there is really no need to crate her because she is not destructive to the house, she's not a chewer, and she doesn't have accidents). She knows a few commands including sit and drop it (after she fetches her toy). We are still working on shake and lie down. She is not a jumpy dog, and she greets guests very politely, usually followed by kisses to your hand if you give her a little attention; if you give her no attention, she kinda just ignores you.

Rita is a cattle dog, and we recommend that you read up on the breed before applying for her. Cattle dogs were bred to be working dogs on farms (usually herding sheep and cattle) so they enjoy having tasks and projects to work on. She loves it when we hide her treats under blankets or under the cushion in her doggy beds, etc. and she has to work to find them. She also likes chewing at her rawhides, bones, and kongs filled with peanut butter or cheese.

We recommend Rita for a home without cats and other small critters, as she looks at them quite curiously. Rita's favorite hobby is fetching her love lion (the toy in the picture above). As you can see from her video footage, she will even jump over bushes to get to it! Usually Rita sleeps in bed with us or on a blanket on the floor; she pretty much adapts to whatever.

As you can see from the pictures, she has a cut on her paw pads, so we bandaged her up with some gauze and an antibiotic. This is nothing serious or long term; just a precaution.

Rita weighs about 44 lbs. She has very pretty brindly patterning; the pictures don't do her justice.

Attention Petfinder Users: To learn more about this dog and to fill out an application to adopt, please visit our website at www.lastdaydogrescue.org

Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all animals before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the animals shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. The microchips are registered to Last Day Dog Rescue with the adopter's info added once adopted. If the animal is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Animals MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our animals back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted animal.

Please understand the statements about this animal are based upon the foster home's evaluation of the animal. The animal might behave differently (negatively or positively) in your home. While the animal might be good with the current foster’s dogs, cats, children, etc., it may not be with your animal(s) or children. The animal may be housebroken or litter trained in the home of the foster but may relapse in your home. The animal is represented to the public as it performs in the foster home and any statements made regarding the animal are conditional to that foster home setting. Please understand that statements made regarding this animal are simply overviews and are not guaranteed.

The Petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our animals. Visual breed identification in animals is unreliable so for most of the animals we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each animal as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our animals based on personality, not by breed label.

Thank you for looking through our list of animals needing forever homes and choosing rescue first. We appreciate you stopping by.
